Editorial Couple’s Session with Monica and Laveil

What is an Editorial Couple’s Session?

About three years ago, we started getting more and more inquiries for a style of engagement session that we refer to as “Editorial”.  Our Editorial Couple’s Session has since become our most sought after type of portrait session.  What do we mean by the word, “editorial” ?   To us, this means that the images are created for publication.  These sessions are designed to create magazine worthy images.  When friends and family view the images, we want them to say, “Wow!  Those belong in a magazine!”    We break out the big lights, rent out interesting locations, and collaborate with talented make up artists and hair stylists  to bring these sessions to life. Of course, clients can choose their own stylists and locations, but we  certainly don’t mind putting together a team of talented artists that we’ve worked with in the past.   These sessions aren’t limited to engaged couples- we offer them to all couples!  Whether you’ve been married 50 years, or you just started dating- we’d love to create some magazine worthy images with you and your love, give us a call!

Monica and Laveil

Monica and Laveil met up with us at one of our favorite boutique hotels in New Orleans, The Saint.   With a mixture of fun, playful, and sexy sets, we’re really proud of their images and we absolutely believe they belong in a magazine!  (You hear that Vogue?)   I’ve had a chance to peek at the wedding website they created for their guests using their images- it looks amazing!  I’d rather not share the link out of respect for their privacy, I’m sure they don’t want any wedding crashers.  This regal couple will be getting married in a few weeks, and I can’t wait to celebrate with them.  I’m itching to create more editorial portraits with them in their wedding attire.  Look out New Orleans, this couple is coming to town to host the wedding of the year!

So, how exactly did Leveil win the hand of this beautiful lady?   Here’s Monica’s version:

Late in the evening of October 15th, while I was in Nashville visiting, Laveil asked me to accompany him to the mall.  On our way, he nonchalantly suggested that we stop by “lovers hill” to catch the sunset.  In retrospect, a sudden request to visit the spot where he first asked me to be his girlfriend should have been a tip off, but that was 13 years ago, so I didn’t think much of it.

As Laveil parked, he did seem a bit nervous, but I attributed it to him worrying about his car being scratched by the overhanging tree branches (if you know Laveil, then you understand).  Not thinking much of his nervous energy, I grabbed his hand and we walked up the hill together to view the sunset.

Standing atop the hill, we talked prospectively of our future together with his arms tightly around me.  I stood with my back to his chest and listened as the love of my life detailed how much he loved and cared for me.  I listened further as he took out time to thank me for being supportive and understanding through the years. This was the moment of clarity that every girl in a committed relationship longs for.  finally I listened attentively as he shared that within the next 6 months he saw himself asking me to be his wife. REALLY?! 6 more months?! SMH. He was doing so well up until then.

Annoyed by this 6 month manifesto, I politely stated the following: “the sun has set. I’m getting a little cold. Are you ready?”

As I turned around, again asking if he was ready, I noticed him kneeling to one knee and the next words i heard were,“Yes, I’m ready. I am ready to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

I froze and stood there in shock, and he then asked for my answer.  Of course, I eventually composed myself and said “yes!”  As he placed the ring on my finger and arose from a single knee, I asked him if he had spoken with my father. He responded by informing me that he asked my father, mother, and sister for their blessings.  At that point I started to cry, for him to know how important my family is to me was just further conformation that he is the one.  I hugged him as tight as I could and told him I loved him.  As I sit here typing this story it brings a smile to my face knowing that God has blessed me to spend the rest of my life with this man.
